A power saving idea for PC users

Help save the planet, and save a few bucks!

Here is a nice “lifehack” that can easily be applied to Windows XP PCs to help save power. Use this when there isn’t enough time to power down, and you have to rush out to make that bus or train. PCs power back quickly when “re-awaking” from Hibernation; I tried this on my PC and it works well.

Simply put, it is just a way to create a desktop shortcut to Hibernate the PC so you can quickly enter this mode with one click and leave…

  1. Right click on any empty area in your desktop and click New -> Shortcut
  2. Paste the following into the text box and click on Next:
    rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState
    power-save
  3. Name the shortcut something suitable, like “Sleep” or “Hibernate”, then click Finish!
  4. Now double-click this any time you need to leave your PC unattended for a period of time and it will instantly “go to sleep”…

Thanks, Prasanna, nice tip!

Happy saving,
Atg
